Veterans & Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS)

VVCS is a specialised, free and confidential counselling service for you (the Australian veteran) and your family (24/7). You do not need to hold a DVA entitlement card to use the services of VVCS.

All VVCS interviews are confidential with professionally qualified counsellors, social workers or psychologists (male and female) who understand war-related problems and how war-related psychological reactions intrude on relationships. They are also skilled in the treatment of a wide range of other service related conditions. Their counsellors will help you address problems in your life with the aim of finding effective outcomes for an improved quality of life. The services they provide to help you are:

  • direct counselling for you (the veteran) and your family
  • crisis counselling
  • after-hours crisis counselling
  • individual counselling
  • couple counselling (you and your partner)
  • family therapy (limited, you and your partner)
  • therapeutic and educational group programmes
  • an outreach counselling programme to outer metropolitian, rural and remote locations
  • information and education
  • referral to other treatment services
  • referral to emergency accommodation centres where available
  • community development activities leading to ex-service community capacity building
  • lifestyle management programmes (Vietnam veterans and your partner)
